Elden Ring Legacy Dungeons

On this page
A legacy dungeon is a large, hand-built area with its own internal layout, shortcuts, and boss. They are the opposite of the open field: tight corridors, locked doors, and enemies that hit like field bosses. Each one also holds something the story needs.
The main ones
| Dungeon | Region | What it gates |
|---|---|---|
| Stormveil Castle | Limgrave | The first Great Rune |
| Raya Lucaria Academy | Liurnia of the Lakes | A Great Rune, and the ability to respec |
| Volcano Manor | Mt. Gelmir | A Great Rune held by Rykard |
| Leyndell, Royal Capital | Altus Plateau | The road to the late game |
| Crumbling Farum Azula | Beyond the capital | The final stretch of the story |
| Miquella’s Haligtree | Consecrated Snowfield | An optional endgame area |
The expansion adds its own: Belurat, Tower Settlement; Shadow Keep; and Enir-Ilim.
How to get through one
Legacy dungeons are built around shortcuts. Push forward until you find a lift or a door that opens from the far side, then rest at the Site of Grace beyond it. From that point the walk back to the boss is short, and dying stops being expensive.
Two other habits matter. First, read the vertical space: many routes continue along the outside of a wall or on a roof rather than through the next doorway. Second, treat every locked door as a promise that there is another way round rather than a dead end.
When to leave
Torrent cannot be summoned inside most legacy dungeons, and the corridors punish wide attacks. If your weapon keeps bouncing off stone, that is the dungeon’s way of telling you to bring something with reach or speed.
