Elden Ring: Iron Fist Alexander Quest and Shard of Alexander
This page includes story or boss spoilers.
On this page
Alexander’s route follows the main game farther than it first appears. Keep talking to him at each stop, then reload the area when dialogue or a new position is expected. His final Farum Azula duel gives Shard of Alexander and Alexander’s Innards.
Meet him and keep the early stops flexible
Alexander’s first optional meeting is on a cliff southwest of Saintsbridge in Stormhill. Agree to help, stand behind him and strike until he comes free, then speak again. At the optional Gael Tunnel stop, find him by the rear entrance on the Limgrave side. To open the door blocking him, enter the dungeon from Caelid and work through to that door. He is then in Redmane’s plaza while the festival is active and at Wailing Dunes after Radahn; speak to him beside the grace before leaving Caelid.
Use an Oil Pot in Liurnia
In Liurnia, Alexander is optionally stuck in another pothole above Jarburg, south of the Artist’s Shack. This time ordinary hits do not free him. Throw an Oil Pot at him, speak to him again, then hit him several times. The Oil Pot is the practical gate that makes this encounter different from the first one.
His next stop is the lava pool south of Fort Laiedd, near the Magma Wyrm. Ride Torrent to the sloped rock in front of him, dismount, and speak to him for the Jar helm. Later he can appear for the Fire Giant encounter, then travels to Crumbling Farum Azula.
Finish the final duel
After the Godskin Duo, start at Dragon Temple Altar. Take the northern route to the imp seal and spend two Stonesword Keys to reach Dragon Temple Lift. Beyond the lift’s grace, cross the plaza of undead, climb the stairs and turn right toward the broken archways. Cross the left archway and the ruined tower to Alexander’s broad platform. Win it, exhaust his final dialogue, and take both Shard of Alexander and Alexander’s Innards. The final Shard boosts skills by 15%; killing Alexander early gives the weaker Warrior Jar Shard, which boosts skills by 10% instead.
The Innards have a separate use: give them to Jar-Bairn to receive the Companion Jar talisman. That final exchange depends on Jar-Bairn and Diallos progress in Jarburg, including dialogue and area reloads. Keep the item until Jar-Bairn is ready instead of treating it as a sellable reward.
