Elden Ring FAQs
On this page
Most of the questions that stop a new Tarnished are about difficulty, direction, and whether a decision can be undone. Here are the answers in the order they usually come up.
Is the game too hard for me?
Elden Ring is hard, but it gives you more answers than any earlier FromSoftware game: Spirit Ashes, co-op, an open world you can leave, and a map that shows where to go next. If a fight is beyond you, go somewhere else for a while. That is the intended response, not a failure.
Where should I go first?
Follow the road north from the Church of Elleh towards the gate at Stormveil. Before you commit to the castle, explore Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula to the south, where the enemies are gentler and the upgrade materials are sitting in the open.
Can I play with friends?
Yes. You need a Furcalling Finger Remedy to see summon signs, and progress is shared with whoever is hosting. Boss fights are the usual reason to call someone in.
Can I change my stats after I commit?
Yes, once you have reached Raya Lucaria Academy and defeated its boss. It costs a Larval Tear, and the game gives you a limited number of them, so treat a reset as a real decision rather than a free one. See how to respec.
Does boss order matter?
Not as much as it feels like it does. Two Great Runes open the way to the capital, and plenty of bosses are optional. The boss order guide gives a sensible sequence if you want one.
What carries into New Game Plus?
Your level, attributes, weapons, armour, talismans, spells, and most items carry over. Sites of Grace, map progress, and quest states generally reset, so you re-explore with all your gear intact.
Should I play the DLC before finishing the game?
The expansion is tuned for late-game characters and is reached through an optional area. Finish the main story first unless you are deliberately over-levelled.
