Elden Ring: Pouches, Quick Items, and Crafting
On this page
Put emergency tools where your hands can find them
The quick-item bar is convenient until it contains every consumable you own. Put the Flask of Crimson Tears in a consistent place, keep a small number of items you use in motion, and move infrequent tools into the pouch. The pouch is especially useful for Torrent, the map, a lantern, a spirit summon, or a situational consumable because it keeps the main scroll shorter when a fight is busy.
The exact button combination varies by platform and control scheme, so use the in-game pouch assignment screen and practise it at a Grace. The goal is muscle memory, not a clever layout. If you repeatedly select the wrong item while retreating from a boss, remove the clutter before starting again.
Craft with a destination in mind
Buy the Crafting Kit from Merchant Kalé at the Church of Elleh to turn collected materials into useful field items. Cookbooks unlock recipes, while the materials themselves still need to be gathered or bought. Before a cave, look at the enemy’s threat and craft for that: cures for a status effect, pots or knives for a safe pull, or ammunition for a ranged tool. Do not strip every plant along a route to make objects you have not learned to use.
| Need | Better inventory choice |
|---|---|
| Reaching a distant ledge or boss | Assign Torrent to the pouch so it is available without scrolling. |
| Exploring a dark tunnel | Keep the lantern accessible and save the main quick bar for healing and combat. |
| Pulling one enemy from a group | Prepare a low-risk ranged consumable or bow option before entering. |
| Fighting through a status-heavy area | Craft the matching cure only after confirming what is building up. |
Crafting does not replace weapon reinforcement or flask upgrades. It makes a route smoother when a small supply answers a specific obstacle. This page covers base-game systems and avoids a complete cookbook or material-location list. Combine it with A Useful First Limgrave Route when setting up a first exploration circuit.
