How to get Torrent
On this page
Torrent, the Spectral Steed, arrives when Melina offers you an accord. Rest at a Site of Grace in the open world — the ones near the Church of Elleh or Gatefront are the usual first stops — and accept her offer. You receive the Spectral Steed Whistle, and from then on you can summon Torrent anywhere in the open world.
What the whistle does
Use the whistle to summon Torrent at any point outdoors. Outside the field, Torrent cannot be summoned, which includes most indoor legacy dungeons and small catacombs, although a few large underground areas do allow it.
On Torrent you can fight from horseback, ride past fights you do not want, and double jump. The double jump is the real reason to keep him summoned: it clears gaps, drops, and terrain that would otherwise need a long detour.
Mounted combat basics
Horseback fighting is best used for hit-and-run. Circle a group, take one swing, and keep moving rather than stopping to trade, because a dismounted player is a stationary target. Ranged options and sweeping attacks on horseback handle packs well.
If Torrent takes enough damage he will vanish, and you will land on your feet. You can resummon him after a short pause, so retreating before he goes down is usually the better play.
Appearance options
The Tarnished Pack released in August 2026 added three Spectral Steed attires that change how Torrent looks: the Tree Sentinel attire found in Stormveil Castle, the Silver of Caria attire found in Liurnia of the Lakes, and the Funereal Night attire found in Altus Plateau. Once you have one, a new option appears in the Site of Grace menu to change his appearance.
