Elden Ring Patch Notes

On this page

The current Elden Ring version is 1.17, released on 27 August 2026 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Steam. It arrived the day before the Tarnished Pack add-on and the Nintendo Switch 2 release of the Tarnished Edition, and it also carries gameplay balance adjustments.

What 1.17 changed

Patch 1.17 prepares the game for the Tarnished Pack content. It adds the Idus Knight and Heavy Knight as selectable starting classes, adds weapons found in the world or bought from merchants, adds two NPC invasion events (one in Caelid and one in Leyndell, Royal Capital, which will not trigger once the capital has changed), and adds three Spectral Steed attires that change Torrent’s appearance. The attires are found in Stormveil Castle, Liurnia of the Lakes, and Altus Plateau.

On the balance side, several Realm of Shadow rewards were moved up to higher-tier items, and a set of weapons were adjusted. If a patch note names a weapon you are carrying, read the line rather than the heading: “reduced stamina consumption” and “increased power” usually mean the weapon is better, not worse.

Change type What it usually means for you
New classes or gear Nothing changes unless you buy or find the content
Balance adjustments Re-test a weapon before rebuilding around it
Item placement changes Rewards already collected are not moved
New NPC events Time-limited to a region state, so check before an area changes

Check your version first

The version number appears on the title screen, in the bottom corner. If a guide describes a fight differently from what you are seeing, compare that number with the guide’s date before you change anything.

Reading a patch note for your build

Start with the sections that name your weapon, your spell school, or a boss you are stuck on. Note that the official notes cover every platform, so a line about Steam timing or a Switch 2 release does not apply to you unless you play there.

If a change does not explain the problem you are having, it is usually not the cause. Under-levelled Vigour and an unupgraded weapon account for far more failed attempts than any patch.
