Elden Ring Game Progress Route
This page includes story or boss spoilers.
On this page
This route follows the path most players take without major detours. Treat the order as a suggestion: the open world lets you enter most regions early, and the only hard gate is the two Great Runes required before Leyndell.
| Order | Region or dungeon | What you are doing there |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Limgrave | Learning the systems, finding the first upgrade materials |
| 2 | Weeping Peninsula | Easing into tougher enemies and Castle Morne |
| 3 | Stormveil Castle | The first Great Rune |
| 4 | Liurnia of the Lakes | Raya Lucaria Academy, the second Great Rune, and respec |
| 5 | Caelid | Starscourge Radahn and the route underground |
| 6 | Altus Plateau and Mt. Gelmir | Volcano Manor, the capital approach |
| 7 | Leyndell, Royal Capital | The late-game gate |
| 8 | Mountaintops of the Giants | The Fire Giant and beyond |
| 9 | Crumbling Farum Azula | The final stretch |
| 10 | Optional endgame | Miquella’s Haligtree, Mohgwyn Palace, Realm of Shadow |
Knowing when to move on
The Reliable signal is not your level: it is how a basic enemy of a region responds to you. If a normal soldier takes several full combos, or if a single pack pulls your whole flask, the region is telling you to come back later. That is normal, and it is not a failure.
Exact recommended levels for each location are maintained on the source page linked below, and they are a better guide than any single number quoted in a video.
Two rules that keep the route open
First, always collect the map fragment for a region before pushing deep into it. The map is how you find the dungeons that hold upgrades. Second, spend your runes before a boss attempt rather than after a failed one.
If you accidentally sequence-break into a late region, take the upgrade materials and leave. The runes you earn there will still be worth spending back in a place you can survive.
