DREDGE Night Fishing and Panic Guide: Stay Useful After Dark

On this page

For the return trip, use V4mp’s Dredge Docks — All Locations 19/19 video to find a safe haven. The guide below focuses on planning the night run itself.

Go out at night for a reason

Night fish for a required catch or a short Pursuit run. Check the fishing spot’s time requirement before you wait through sunset. If the target is not there, return, sleep, repair, and try again with a fresh route.

Darkness raises Panic, shown by the eye at the top of the screen. High Panic can distort the view and bring hazards that cost fish, hull health, or time. A bright boat and a known shoreline help, but neither turns a long, blind crossing into a safe plan.

Set a dock as your finish line

Before sunset, decide which dock you are sailing toward. Fish on the outward leg if the catch fits in the hold. Then turn home as the light goes, instead of adding a second unexplored landmark. This gives you one direction to hold if fog or a surprise makes the water hard to read.

If Panic is climbing, the clean reset is a dock: rest there and start again in daylight. Use a repair stop if a collision has damaged equipment, because a broken slot can turn a successful night catch into a poor return. You can still fish at night with a small boat, but save the longer region-to-region runs for better lights, more speed, and a route you already know.

Make darkness work for you

Use your map markers for night-only fishing spots, a dock, and the next safe turn. The Spyglass helps you identify a target without circling it in the dark. Keep the job narrow: catch the needed fish, lift a nearby crab pot, or make one delivery. That leaves enough cargo room and time to get home.

When night fishing exposes a gear problem, solve the actual constraint. A light helps you see and manage the trip; a new rod, net, or pot changes what you can catch. New captains can begin in The Marrows. See Ship upgrades for the boat side, then Regions and fishing types to plan the next habitat.

Set up the run before the clock changes

Use the map while it is still light. Mark the target, the return dock, and one turn or safe landmark between them. Then inspect the target in the encyclopedia: if it is not a night fish or a required evening delivery, sleep and make the trip next day. Waiting offshore to see whether a spot changes is rarely a better plan than beginning the next run with a full daylight bar.

Lights help visibility and slow Panic buildup, but they are not a permission slip for every crossing. The right decision can be to catch one target, leave with empty space for it, and dock. If an unexpected hazard or collision breaks the item you depended on, stop at the nearest safe dock and repair before trying to repeat the whole route.
