The route that creates the Owl choice

After Genichiro at Ashina Castle, speak with Kuro and Isshin. Kuro’s incense plan needs three key items. Get the Mortal Blade by reaching Senpou Temple’s Main Hall, defeating the Folding Screen Monkeys, and speaking with the Divine Child in the Inner Sanctum. Get the Shelter Stone by following Ashina Depths to Mibu Village, defeating the Corrupted Monk, and collecting it in the Wedding Cave. Get the Lotus of the Palace from the Sunken Valley route after Guardian Ape and the passage beyond it.

You need the items themselves. Guardian Ape and Corrupted Monk alone do not trigger the next castle state. Once you possess the Mortal Blade, Shelter Stone, and Lotus, Ashina Castle changes and the rooftop route leads to Owl. This is the practical cleanup point for early Ashina minibosses and visible Prayer Beads: some encounters change with the first invasion. It is not a claim that every bead must be found now; use Gourd Seeds and Prayer Beads for the early subset.

At Castle Tower Lookout, Owl presents two answers. Obey the Iron Code and forsake Kuro locks the current playthrough into Shura. You fight Emma, then Isshin Ashina, and the game ends without Fountainhead Palace. Break the Iron Code and remain loyal to Kuro starts the longer route. Defeat Great Shinobi Owl, take the Aromatic Branch, then speak with Kuro. The Wedding Cave prayer point uses the branch with the three incense items to send you to Fountainhead Palace.

The shared non-Shura finish

At Fountainhead, progress to Divine Dragon and collect the Divine Dragon’s Tears. The late Ashina return leads through the final route to Genichiro and Isshin, the Sword Saint. After that battle, speak to Kuro. The item or items you give him determine the non-Shura outcome. Do the optional ending work before defeating Divine Dragon whenever possible; it avoids NPC-state surprises and makes a missed prerequisite easier to recover.

Immortal Severance

This is the standard loyal-to-Kuro result. Follow the non-Shura route, defeat Divine Dragon and the final boss, then give Kuro Divine Dragon’s Tears with no alternate ending item. You do not need Emma’s Father’s Bell Charm, Owl (Father), the serpent viscera, or Frozen Tears for this result.

Purification

Purification needs the non-Shura Owl decision and a second Hirata Estate memory. After defeating Great Shinobi Owl, return to Kuro’s room. Exhaust Kuro and Emma’s available dialogue, rest if needed, then stand behind the privacy screen near Kuro and eavesdrop. The useful line is his resolve to do what must be done.

Rest, go upstairs from Kuro’s room, and talk to Emma. Choose the answer agreeing that Kuro cannot be allowed to die. Rest again and speak to her until she says she will investigate. Travel to the Old Grave Idol in Ashina Castle, take the short path left to the graves, and speak to Emma there.

Next travel to Dilapidated Temple. Do not walk straight inside: circle behind the building, hug the eavesdrop spot, and listen to Emma and the Sculptor. Enter the temple, ask Emma about what you overheard, then ask what she is hiding. She gives Father’s Bell Charm. Offer it at the Buddha statue that first opened Hirata Estate, clear the revisited memory, and defeat Owl (Father) for the Aromatic Flower. At the ending, give Kuro the Aromatic Flower and Divine Dragon’s Tears. Start this chain before Divine Dragon; once you have the bell, finish the revisited Hirata route before treating the ending as secured.

Return

Return also needs the non-Shura route, but it belongs to the Divine Child rather than Emma. First acquire Holy Chapter: Infested and give it to the Divine Child in the Inner Sanctum. The early opportunity is the praying monk in Senpou’s Main Hall; if that opportunity has passed, the chapter can be recovered from the later underwater Senpou location after you gain the Mibu Breathing Technique.

Request Rice from the Divine Child, consume it, travel away and return, then request again. Repeat until she becomes sick. Cure her with a Persimmon or Taro Persimmon and take Rice for Kuro. Give it to Kuro, leave and return, then accept and eat his Sweet Rice Ball. Return to the Divine Child and tell her about it. With Holy Chapter: Infested also delivered, travel away and return until she leaves the Inner Sanctum. Use its blue rift to enter the Hall of Illusions and speak with her about the next chapter.

From Senpou Main Hall, exit through the left side into the cave. After the first drop, turn back, crouch through the tight opening, and follow it to the dead monk carrying Holy Chapter: Dragon’s Return. Give that chapter to the Divine Child. She asks for two serpent viscera.

For Fresh Serpent Viscera, use Puppeteer Ninjutsu on the kite operator below Senpou Temple, take the newly reachable kite route, and perform the aerial execution on the Great Serpent from the long beam. For Dried Serpent Viscera, reach the Sunken Valley serpent shrine, use Puppeteer Ninjutsu on the nearby monkey to distract the serpent, then enter the shrine for the item. Return both to the Divine Child, rest and speak with her until she has completed the ritual, then collect Frozen Tears from her at the Inner Sanctum. After the final boss, give Kuro Frozen Tears together with Divine Dragon’s Tears.

Choose a route before the last boss

Shura is mutually exclusive with every Fountainhead ending on that playthrough. On the loyal-to-Kuro route, completing Purification or Return requirements does not force their ending until you choose the final item hand-in. Keep the key item you earned, finish the final fight, and read the hand-in prompt before confirming. Do not treat New Game Plus as a substitute for a clear current-run plan: it carries character progress forward, but it resets the world’s route work.
