Tiffany Aching, a young witch on the Chalk, interrupts a dance of the seasons and attracts the attention of the Wintersmith, who decides to make her his summer.

About

Wintersmith is a comic fantasy novel by the British writer Terry Pratchett, set in his Discworld and written for younger readers. It is labelled a story of Discworld rather than one of the adult novels, and it is the third book about the young witch Tiffany Aching.

Tiffany is learning her craft on the Chalk when she joins a dance that belongs to the seasons and takes the place of the Summer Lady. The Wintersmith notices her, and the weather turns personal: the winter goes on, snow falls in shapes that imitate her, and the people and animals she is responsible for are threatened by a season that will not move. She has to manage both the practical work of a witch and the attentions of something elemental.

Pratchett writes the Tiffany Aching books with the comedy of the adult Discworld and a more direct interest in growing up, and the Nac Mac Feegle return as her unreliable guard. It follows The Wee Free Men and A Hat Full of Sky.
