The Wee Free Men
Tiffany Aching is nine, and she thinks her grandmother, a shepherd, may have been a witch.
About
The Wee Free Men is a comic fantasy novel by the English writer Terry Pratchett, published in 2003. It is set in his Discworld and it was written for younger readers.
Tiffany Aching is nine years old, and her grandmother was a shepherd who knew more about the land and the creatures on it than she ever explained. Tiffany has begun to suspect that she may have been something more than a shepherd.
When something begins to take children from the downs, Tiffany has to do something about it, and her allies are the Nac Mac Feegle, a people six inches high who are extremely strong, extremely quarrelsome and almost impossible to organise.
The book is labelled a story of Discworld rather than a novel of the series, which is how the children's books are distinguished. It is the first of five books about Tiffany Aching, and it was followed by A Hat Full of Sky, Wintersmith, I Shall Wear Midnight and The Shepherd's Crown, which is the last of them.
