Maskerade
Agnes Nitt leaves Lancre to look for a career at the Opera House in Ankh-Morpork, and the witches follow when Granny Weatherwax realises that Nanny Ogg has not been paid for her very popular cookbook.
About
Maskerade is a fantasy novel by the English writer Terry Pratchett, published in 1995. It is the eighteenth book of the Discworld series.
Agnes Nitt is the young woman at the centre of it. She leaves her home in Lancre to try to make a life for herself at the Opera House in Ankh-Morpork, which has recently been bought by a former cheesemonger named Seldom Bucket.
What brings the witches after her is money. Granny Weatherwax works out that Nanny Ogg has written an extremely popular cookbook and has not been paid for it by the publisher, and that the name on the book, A Lancre Witch, will lead people to think that Granny wrote it rather than Nanny.
So Granny and Nanny go to the city, and the novel they find themselves in is a version of The Phantom of the Opera, with the usual consequences for everybody involved. Granny and Nanny are not sentimental about the theatre, and the people running the Opera House are not prepared for them.
