Feet of Clay
The Night Watch has two problems: murders that appear to have been committed by a golem, and the poisoning of the Patrician, which nobody can work out how anyone managed.
About
Feet of Clay is a fantasy novel by the English writer Terry Pratchett, published in 1996. It is the nineteenth book of the Discworld series and the third of the books about the City Watch.
Captain Carrot, Commander Vimes and the rest of the Night Watch are the ones doing the work. What they have to explain is a series of murders that seem to have been committed by a golem, which ought not to be possible.
At the same time somebody has poisoned Lord Vetinari, the Patrician, and the strange thing is not that it happened but the way it was done. Golems are clay creatures who have to obey the instructions written on a slip of paper inside their heads, and twelve of the city's golems have decided to make one of their own.
The title comes from a figure of speech in the Hebrew scriptures. The script used in the book for the language of the city, when a golem writes it, looks like the Hebrew alphabet, which is a reference to where golems come from in folklore.
