Demon's Souls PS5: Getting Started

On this page

Treat the first run as a route lesson

After the opening, you return to the Nexus in Soul Form, then head through the Gates of Boletaria. Do not try to protect every soul on the first attempt. Learn where an enemy can hit, where you can back away, and which shortcut will save time after a death. A shield is useful when you do not know an attack yet; lower it while walking so stamina starts recovering sooner.

After defeating Phalanx, speak to the Monumental in the Nexus, then return to the Maiden in Black and accept soul power to begin levelling. Put points into the requirements for the weapon, shield, or spell you actually use before spreading them across every stat. If a weapon needs more Strength or Dexterity, meet that requirement first. More damage only helps when the move set is safe enough for you to use.

Use Soul Form on purpose

Death in body form affects that world’s tendency. For a steadier first playthrough, return to the Nexus after a boss and do your risky exploration in Soul Form. You have less maximum health there, but you avoid shifting a world toward Black through repeated body-form deaths. The Cling Ring makes Soul Form much less punishing if you find it early.

Souls are both currency and experience. Before a new area, spend enough to make a death feel manageable. If you lose a bloodstain, recover it once with a simple plan; do not turn one loss into several rushed runs. When you want the next step, use the Archstone route and keep the World Tendency page handy.

After a boss, touch its Archstone to register the next return point. Then use the Nexus Archstone to bank souls before testing a new branch. Opening an elevator, gate, or door before pushing deeper is often the practical reward of a run that ends in death.
