Approach and preparation
Fool’s Idol ends 3-1, Prison of Hope, but the fight begins before the fog gate. Start from the Prison of Hope Archstone and use the opened route back through the upper floors rather than treating the chapel as the only destination. On the right side above the church is the prisoner who revives the Idol. Reach the top end of the second spiral staircase, kill that prisoner, and only then enter the chapel. If you skip this, the apparent kill is undone and you have to solve the route problem after wasting a boss attempt.
Use pillars to identify the real Idol
Bring a weapon that can make a quick burst of damage and, if you use it, a resin before entering. The chapel has pillars, benches, worshipping prisoners, and green floor sigils. The sigils are more dangerous than they look because they paralyse you and leave you open to Soul Ray. Approach around the edges of the room. Let the pillars break the line of sight, clear a nearby prisoner only when it blocks your path, and keep enough space to step away from a green mark instead of walking through the centre.
At the opening, Fool’s Idol is alone. Use a pillar to make it fire Soul Ray, then run in for a short attack string and let it teleport. As its health drops, it begins producing copies. This is not a damage-race phase. Lock onto a candidate: a clone shows a small overhead health bar, while the real Idol does not. You can also watch the casts from cover: the real Idol fires the thicker Soul Ray and the clones use smaller rays. Those two tests keep you from guessing and help with the optional no-clone-hit trophy.
Once you identify the real Idol, wait until the visible cast finishes, cross from pillar to pillar, hit it, and move back to cover. Do not slash through a crowd of copies hoping to find it. The copies stop attacking when the real one is hit, so one clean identification is worth more than trying to delete every false target. If the room becomes hard to read, loosen the camera, look at the floor before moving, and use the benches and pillars as separate lanes instead of rolling through the entire chapel.
Reward and next step
Victory grants the Doll Demon Soul and activates the Fool’s Idol Archstone into Upper Latria, 3-2. Keep the soul if you may want Soul Ray from Sage Freke; it pierces enemies, which is useful in tight corridors. The next boss route is Maneater in Upper Latria. Before taking it, return to the Nexus, spend your souls, and use Base-Game Progression to decide whether Latria or another Archstone is the better next branch for your build.
