Dark Souls Remastered: Weapon Upgrades

Reinforce before you spread your materials

Weapon upgrades usually give a clearer early damage gain than a few extra offensive stat levels. Choose a weapon with a move set you can land safely, meet its requirements, and reinforce that one first. The normal route takes most ordinary weapons to +5 with Titanite Shards, then asks you to ascend at the right blacksmith once you have the required ember. From there it can continue to +10 and later +15.

Andre of Astora is the key early blacksmith for normal, divine, and occult work. Give an ember to the blacksmith who requests it; an ember is not a consumable buff and it does not upgrade a weapon by itself. If the next upgrade step is unavailable, check the current level, weapon family, blacksmith, and ember before assuming the game is broken.

Pick a path that matches your stats

The standard path rewards physical Strength and Dexterity investment. Raw favours base damage while reducing normal scaling, which can help a low-stat character. Elemental paths change the damage mix and often alter scaling, so they are build choices rather than automatic improvements. Unique weapons, boss weapons, and dragon weapons use other materials and shorter upgrade tracks; do not spend a rare material until you are sure you enjoy that weapon.

Keep a second upgraded option only when it covers a real problem, such as strike damage for armoured enemies or a bow for a pull. A +5 weapon that feels good is more useful than several untouched choices. The Getting Started guide covers the early route; Humanity and Kindling explains why bonfire spending deserves its own budget.
