Nioh 3 Weapons and Equipment Weight

Give each weapon a job
Every weapon has Attack, special effects, Break, and Block values. Break affects your ability to break an enemy’s stance; Block affects how much Ki you lose while guarding. Those are useful questions before an early upgrade: do you want a weapon for a guarded Samurai exchange, or one that suits an evasive Ninja route to the enemy’s back?
Use one familiar weapon long enough to learn its reach and recovery. Familiarity rises as you use it, strengthening its special effects and increasing the Amrita gained if you later offer it. That is a better early investment than changing weapon type every time an item has a larger Attack number.
Keep two equipment sets on purpose
Samurai and Ninja have separate weapon, armour, accessory, and Guardian Spirit slots. This lets the two styles solve different problems. A Samurai set can support guarding and stance-based punishment. A Ninja set can support low-Ki movement and rear attacks. They do not need the same armour category or the same weapon.
Armour and accessories add more than defence. Armour has weight, Toughness, elemental resistance, and special effects. Light, medium, and heavy categories broadly reflect weight and damage reduction. Heavier armour slows movement and raises the Ki cost of attacks and dodges. Toughness affects Ki damage and how easily you stagger, so choose a trade-off you can feel during an actual exchange instead of chasing a single defence value.
| Before changing gear | Check this |
|---|---|
| A new weapon | Does its reach, Break, and Block fit the style using it? |
| A heavier armour piece | Can you still dodge and finish an attack string with Ki left? |
| A Samurai loadout | Does it support a guard, Deflect, and Ki Pulse rhythm? |
| A Ninja loadout | Does it leave room for evades, Mist, and a rear attack? |
Test in a real route
Equip a new set at a shrine, then use it against a familiar enemy or the opening of a safe route. If a move leaves you exhausted or a dodge no longer clears a boss attack, the piece may be a bad fit for that style even if its defence increased. Revisit the shrine before spending upgrade materials.
Samurai and Ninja Styles explains the two combat jobs. Stats and Respec is the next step when requirements or armour weight have outgrown the current allocation. Once the basic loadout works, add Soul Cores and Guardian Spirits for skills that complement it rather than replace it.
