Dark Souls II Scholar: Covenants and Online
On this page
Covenants give Dark Souls II’s online activity a purpose. Some ask you to help, some defend an area, and others create invasions or structured duels. Join at the relevant NPC or altar, then use the covenant item when you want that role. A covenant is a play preference, not a mandatory class choice.
For co-op, use the appropriate sign item near the section or boss you expect another player to reach. For invasions, enter with a route in mind: know the nearest bonfire, clear the immediate enemy pack, and do not start a fight where the host has every environmental advantage. A lower-stakes session is a good way to learn a weapon’s player-versus-player range before relying on it in a boss area.
Scholar’s altered high-spec placement changes some NPC and enemy details, so check this site’s edition scope before copying a route from an older version. If you only want the single-player campaign, you can ignore covenant rank rewards until a character has a clear reason to pursue them. The main route remains in Base-Game Progression.
