Treat Companion Trust as a Resource

On this page

The official description frames Baldur’s Gate 3 around a parasite in your brain: mystery abilities awaken, and as corruption inside you grows, so does your power. It also warns there will be a price, and that the bonds of trust you build could be your greatest strength.

Power with a documented price

Four steps showing corruption granting power while companion trust, described as your greatest strength, depends on your choices.
Power and trust are two ledgers that both move. Open the full image.

The store is unusually direct: power grows with the corruption, and there will be a price to pay. That makes the parasite abilities a resource with a cost rather than a free upgrade, and it is worth knowing which choices you consider worth that cost before the option appears mid-scene.

Choices reach your companions

Because the game is described as a tale of fellowship and betrayal where your choices define your legacy, the party is an audience as well as a toolkit. A decision that feels efficient in the moment is still a decision your companions are watching.

Resist or embrace - but choose

The publisher presents both directions plainly: resist and turn darkness against itself, or embrace corruption and become ultimate evil. Either is supported, and each is easier to live with if you decided in advance rather than drifting into it one convenient option at a time.

Mechanically, the party is what you bring to each fight: read building a party you can actually run. For how those fights start, see verticality and the world as a tool.
