Find the correct casket
Use the wooden hatch behind the counter of the Blighted Village apothecary, near X: 32, Y: 379, to enter its cellar. A lever behind crates opens the secret passage onward; it becomes highlighted with a passive DC 15 Perception check, but you can also find it by checking the wall behind the stack.
In the natural cavern beyond, open the mouldering casket closest to the tunnel entrance. It contains the Scroll of Summon Quasit, which summons the named familiar Shovel. Do not mistake it for the Necromancy of Thay reward deeper in the laboratory; this scroll is available earlier in the cellar route.
Teach the spell instead of consuming it
A wizard can turn this scroll into a permanent spell, but the interface is unusual. Put the scroll in that wizard’s inventory, right-click it and use the transcribe option. It does not show up through the regular spell-learning menu, which makes it easy to assume the scroll cannot be learned.
Transcription adds Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit to the wizard spellbook. You must retain at least one wizard level to use that learned spell; respeccing entirely out of wizard removes access until a wizard level is restored. A separate conversation route can also teach Shovel, but it has class and dialogue requirements. This guide uses the direct wizard transcription method.
Use Shovel as a scout
The quasit can become invisible, frighten enemies and make claw attacks. It is also immune to poison damage. Its value is usually information rather than raw damage: send it ahead to reveal enemies, place it near a patrol before opening combat, then return to the party before committing to an attack.
Keep it out of a first enemy turn if scouting is the goal. A familiar that starts a fight in the middle of a group may die before it delivers any useful control. The spell does not replace careful positioning, but it gives a wizard a reusable extra body for trap rooms and ambushes.
