Valheim Eikthyr Guide: Two Deer Trophies, First Boss, and Antler Pickaxe

Find the altar and prepare one clean attempt

Eikthyr is the Meadows boss. Read the red runestone near the starting stones or a discovered Vegvísir to mark Eikthyr’s Mystical Altar on the map. Mark your base and the altar before setting out; the altar can be far enough away that a death run becomes confusing without map pins.

Bring two Deer Trophies. Hunt ordinary deer in the Meadows until the trophies drop, then keep them in inventory for the altar. Also take a repaired Crude Bow, a reasonable stack of Wood Arrows, a melee weapon, and a shield if you are comfortable blocking. Eat three foods and wait for Rested at home before travelling. Set your bed spawn, leave backup food and a cheap weapon in a chest, and start in daylight.

You do not need a maximum leather set or an elaborate arena. You do need enough stamina to move after a shot. Clear small trees, loose rocks, and wandering boar around the altar so you can see the ground while circling. Avoid building a large wooden fort beside the fight: Eikthyr’s lightning and charge can turn it into obstruction or leave you trapped behind your own walls.

Summon, watch the tells, then move

At the altar, interact with the offering point and place the two Deer Trophies. Eikthyr has a close antler swing, a charge, and lightning attacks. Keep a medium distance, aim the bow when he has finished an attack, then run sideways or around a tree when he commits to a charge. Do not hold sprint until the bar is empty; keep enough stamina for one dodge or a short escape.

If he reaches you, block the clearly telegraphed close swing with a shield or step away instead of trading hits. When the ground attack or lightning starts, create distance first and resume arrows once the danger has passed. The fight has no need for clever damage tricks: food, Rested, repaired gear, cover, and patience make the opening boss manageable.

If you die, do not repeatedly charge back with an empty stomach. Read Death and Corpse Recovery, eat at base, use the spare kit, and pull Eikthyr away from the grave before opening it.

Turn the reward into mining access

Loot Eikthyr’s Trophy and Hard Antlers. Hang the trophy at the starting stone where it can be selected for the Forsaken Power; it lowers the stamina cost of running, jumping, and swimming for five minutes. Keep at least one Hard Antler for the Antler Pickaxe recipe: 10 Wood and 1 Hard Antler at a covered Workbench.

If the pickaxe recipe is missing, check that you have actually picked up a Hard Antler, are carrying 10 Wood yourself, and are standing at a covered Workbench. Materials in a nearby chest do not count. The pickaxe opens copper and tin in the Black Forest, which leads into Copper, Tin, and Bronze. Eikthyr is the gate, not the end of the preparation loop.
