Rue imagines herself and Jules inside famous romantic scenes, but the affection hides her continuing drug use. Jules feels unwanted and turns toward Elliot, who kisses her behind Rue's back. The three spend an evening together that deteriorates when Rue drinks and lashes out at Jules. Rue returns home alone and uses the drugs from Laurie's suitcase, retreating into an imagined reunion with her dead father.
Maddy's birthday party places Cassie beside the relationship she is secretly undermining. Cassie has threatened to expose the affair unless Nate commits to her, but he continues offering Maddy the possibility of reconciliation. Drinking heavily, Cassie tries to attract his attention and becomes sick in the hot tub while Maddy discusses their relationship. Kat admits to Maddy that her feelings for Ethan do not match the happiness she is expected to display.
Cal drives to the bar where he once danced with Derek, trying to revisit an intimacy he has spent years concealing. His drunken behavior gets him removed, and he returns home to confront his family about the secrets they all keep. He leaves with a family photograph after announcing that he is done with their life together. Elliot finally tells Jules that Rue has been using drugs throughout their renewed relationship, making the danger she has failed to see explicit.
