Rue tells Gia that marijuana is helping her avoid more dangerous substances, concealing the extent of her relapse. Jules questions Elliot about his intentions and begins to feel more comfortable around him. Rue meanwhile invents a plan to sell drugs through classmates and takes it to Laurie after Fezco refuses to participate. Laurie agrees to provide a suitcase of drugs, but her warning about failure makes clear that Rue is taking on a threatening debt.
Ali notices the suitcase and challenges Rue, who attacks him with knowledge of his past rather than accepting his concern. Cassie spends hours preparing for school in the hope of attracting Nate, eventually copying Maddy's clothes. Lexi begins turning her observations of the people around her into a play, giving herself a role beyond silent witness. At the end of the episode, Nate abandons his planned meeting with Cassie and takes flowers to Maddy instead, leaving Cassie's efforts unanswered.
