Elden Ring Nightreign: Relics and Vessels Explained
On this page
Relics are your between-expedition build
Relics are permanent equipment effects obtained as you return from expeditions. They are not the weapons and consumables found in a single Limveld run. At the Roundtable Hold, use Relic Rites to put them into a vessel for a specific Nightfarer. Once fitted, their effects apply from the start of that character’s next expedition and the relic is not consumed.
This makes relics a good place to fix a repeatable weakness. If you regularly play one Nightfarer, favour a relic that improves a tool you use often over a vague bonus for a weapon you almost never find. A relic can carry up to three effects, so read the full card before replacing it. One good effect that changes your first day is often more valuable than a decorative pile of effects that never affect a decision.
Check colours before you build around an effect
Each vessel has up to three slots, and the slot colours decide which relics fit. A relic needs a compatible colour slot; a white slot accepts any colour. If a relic card is dimmed in the Relic Rites screen, it cannot be placed in that position. Do the fitting at the Roundtable rather than trying to solve it after an expedition begins.
When two relics create a conflicting effect, do not assume both will stack. The Relic Rites screen is the authority for what is active. Swap one relic, then confirm the displayed effects before leaving. Extra vessels can give a Nightfarer different loadouts, which is useful when you want one setup for a familiar melee plan and another for a caster or ranged run.
Build small, test, and replace only when the result is clearer
Use this simple process:
- Choose the Nightfarer you play most this week.
- Fit up to three legal relics that support their skill, Ultimate Art, survivability, or preferred weapon type.
- Run one expedition and notice when an effect actually helped.
- Keep the effect if you can name its value; replace it if it never influenced the run.
Avoid rebuilding every slot after every defeat. First check whether the failure came from route choices, an unupgraded weapon, or a late revival. Getting started explains the expedition loop, while co-op and revival covers the team decision that relics cannot solve for you.
Relics are character-specific preparation, not a requirement to play a new class perfectly. Use training to learn a Nightfarer’s buttons first, then add relics once you know which part of that kit you want to strengthen.
