Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code
Artemis Fowl has taken fairy technology and built a computer far beyond anything the human world can produce.
About
Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code is a novel by the Irish writer Eoin Colfer, published in 2003. It is the third book in the Artemis Fowl series.
Artemis is a teenage criminal mastermind whose schemes have repeatedly brought him up against the fairies who live under the world, and this time he has used technology stolen from them to build a device no human engineer could produce. The mistake is showing it to an American businessman with more money than scruples, who takes it for himself. Recovering it means putting together a crew that includes Juliet, the bodyguard's sister, and Mulch Diggums, a dwarf with unusual talents, and, most awkwardly, the fairy authorities Artemis has spent years cheating. The novel is a heist story in which the technology being stolen is not simply valuable but dangerous to the people who own it, and the alliances are made by people who do not trust each other at all.
Colfer writes the series at a fast pace, with the technical detail and the humour carrying a plot that depends on Artemis being cleverer than everyone in the room and occasionally wrong about it.
