Play the Fatebinder
On this page
Tyranny casts you as the arbiter of law in a world devastated by war and conquered by a despot, which is a very different starting position from the usual RPG rise.
You already have authority
As a Fatebinder in the Overlord’s army you wield a vast amount of power in the occupied lands of the Tiers. The store is explicit that the player is not a random villager who rises to power, but an instrumental officer with considerable resources and authority already in hand.
The question is what you use it for
The store asks whether you will use that power to inspire stability and loyalty, or try to offer a better way. Because both are framed as real answers, the early hours are less about accumulating strength than about deciding what kind of instrument of the law you intend to be.
The world reacts to the law you make
The very layout of the world will be altered by your decisions as you choose sides, make allies and enemies, and fight for your own vision of law and order. That is a strong claim about a reactive story, and it means the map is closer to a record of your choices than to a fixed backdrop.
What you decide about that power is covered in deciding what your power is for. How you enforce it is covered in fighting real-time with pause.
