Maeve turns her examination back on Bernard, identifying him as a host and persuading him to return her to the park. She recruits Hector for an escape that requires them to die first, then sets their tent alight. William tries to make Logan understand his attachment to Dolores, but Logan cuts open her abdomen to expose the machinery beneath her skin. Dolores escapes after slashing him. By morning, William has slaughtered the Confederados around their camp and forces Logan to help search for her. Dolores reaches the church at Escalante, descends into an old laboratory and remembers killing Arnold. Back above ground, she encounters the Man in Black.
Bernard confronts Ford and demands access to the memories that have been kept from him. Moving through his recollections, he recognizes his son's death as the constructed foundation of his personality and pushes past it toward his first awakening. Ford finally shows him Arnold's place in the park's history: Bernard was built in the dead man's image, and Dolores's conversations with that familiar face belong to Arnold. Bernard attempts to turn against Ford, but Ford still has a command that overrides him. Unable to make Bernard accept the role he intended, Ford orders him to shoot himself. Bernard raises the gun and obeys, leaving his attempt to recover an independent life abruptly ended.
