Harald and Halfdan sing to each other across the camps before another battle for Kattegat. Halfdan remains with Bjorn, grateful for the journey that showed him a life beyond his brother's ambitions. The fighting brings them together again, and Harald kills him. Other memories and visions interrupt the combat as Hvitserk faces the consequences of choosing Ivar. Ubbe has the chance to kill his brother but cannot bring himself to do it.
Hvitserk kills Guthrum, while Snaefrid also falls during the battle. Lagertha meets Astrid, who tells her that she cannot bear to continue with her pregnancy and asks to be killed. Lagertha delivers the fatal wound and holds her as she dies. Frankish reinforcements give Ivar's side the advantage, and Bjorn orders a retreat. Back in Kattegat, he urges the survivors to pack and leave, while Lagertha sits withdrawn, her hair now white after what she has endured.
Torvi returns for her children, fearful of what Margrethe might have done while left in charge of them. The battle has broken Lagertha's defence, and Rollo appears again. In Iceland, another killing threatens to turn the settlers' quarrels into a continuing feud. Floki tries to prevent that cycle by offering himself as a sacrifice to the gods. His offer remains a proposal, leaving the settlement to decide whether it will answer bloodshed with another death.
