The Return, Part 18

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

A replacement Dougie returns to Janey-E and Sonny Jim, fulfilling Cooper's promise of a homecoming for the family. Cooper's own journey continues after Laura vanishes in the woods. The Lodge repeats familiar encounters, including Leland's request to find his daughter, before Cooper reaches Diane. They drive to a point he identifies by the number 430 and cross amid electrical disturbance, knowing that things may change. At a motel, their reunion is intimate but strained. By morning Diane is gone, leaving a letter addressed to Richard and signed Linda. Cooper questions the names before setting out in a changed car from a changed motel.

In Odessa, he enters Judy's diner and intervenes when men harass a waitress. He asks about her absent colleague and receives an address. There he finds a woman who resembles Laura but calls herself Carrie Page and does not recognise the life he describes. A dead man sits in her house, and she accepts the chance to leave with Cooper. Their long drive brings them to Twin Peaks, where Carrie recognises neither the town nor the Palmer home. Alice Tremond answers the door and says she bought the house from a woman named Chalfont, with no knowledge of Sarah Palmer. Outside, Cooper asks what year it is. Sarah's voice calls for Laura, Carrie screams and the house goes dark, leaving their location and identities unresolved.
