Cleaning Up

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Stringer collects D’Angelo’s crew’s pagers and orders them to handle business face-to-face. Their lawyer, Levy, tells Avon and Stringer to sever ties with Orlando’s and remove people who could testify, including security guard Nakeesha Lyles. Wallace returns to the Pit and D’Angelo welcomes him back, despite Bodie’s objection. When Nakeesha is found murdered, Daniels fears Wallace is in danger and the detail searches for him. Stringer orders Bodie to kill Wallace; Poot tries to stop him, but both boys take part in the killing at Wallace’s home. Freamon also pursues campaign-finance records as pressure mounts to end the investigation, despite evidence connecting the drug money with local politicians.

Shardene wears a wire inside Avon’s club but hears little; the police instead install a camera overlooking Avon’s office. It captures a discussion about sending D’Angelo to New York for a shipment. McNulty and Daniels attach an FBI tracking device to his car and intercept him. McNulty tells D’Angelo that Wallace is dead; D’Angelo initially refuses to believe him, then takes Stringer’s silence as confirmation. He rejects Levy as his lawyer. Burrell threatens to expose an old FBI report on Daniels, but Daniels refuses to shut down the case. The detail arrests Avon, while McNulty lets Stringer go, believing they can catch him later.
