After Aunt Concetta's funeral, Tony meets Fran Felstein at his father's grave and learns that she was Johnny Boy's longtime mistress. Her stories include an encounter with Kennedy and the revelation that Johnny gave her Tony's childhood dog. Fran also says she was denied a promised interest in a racetrack. Tony intervenes with Hesh and Phil to obtain a payment, pursuing Phil in his car when he tries to delay settling his share.
Christopher befriends television writer J.T. Dolan through recovery, then introduces him to the crew's gambling. J.T. accumulates a large debt, misses payments and suffers a beating from Christopher and Little Paulie. His troubles lead him back to heroin before Christopher directs him toward rehabilitation. Junior, meanwhile, attends funerals as a way to leave house arrest. The outings cease to be a simple escape when grief overwhelms him and he later admits that his life lacks purpose.
Tony becomes less comfortable with Fran as she criticises Livia and spends money on expensive clothes after claiming financial hardship. He remembers lying for his father while Livia was in hospital and Johnny was with Fran. In therapy, he resists extending sympathy to his mother despite recalling that betrayal. At the Bing, he embellishes Fran's story about Kennedy for his friends, replacing the discomfort of what he has learned with a more flattering account.
