Spoilers for Stranger Things season 2 episode 4.
Joyce finds Will standing motionless outside the school and brings him home after he wakes. He tells her that the shadow creature entered him and that he can still feel it. His temperature drops, and he rejects a warm bath because the presence inside him likes the cold. Unable to explain the images now reaching his mind, Will draws them across a growing pile of paper. Joyce and Hopper fit the sheets together into a network of branching lines. Hopper recognises the shapes as vines and returns to the damaged pumpkin fields to dig beneath them. Mike visits Will while the others continue looking for Dart.
Eleven's return to the cabin ends in a furious argument with Hopper over his rules and repeated promises. When he cuts off her television, she lashes out with her powers and shatters the windows. While cleaning up afterwards, she discovers his files on Terry Ives. She reaches Terry through the psychic void and hears Terry address her as Jane. Nancy and Jonathan are intercepted at their planned meeting and taken to Hawkins Lab. Owens shows them the gate and warns against telling anyone, unaware that Nancy is recording his explanation. Dustin returns home to find Dart much larger, with a split-open mouth, eating his cat. Beneath the pumpkin field, Hopper breaks through into a tunnel lined with living growth and climbs inside.
