Yeong-ro and Soo-ho face the possibility that departure will separate them permanently. He gives her his sister's necklace again, while the officials outside turn on one another over Chung-ya and the missing money. Tae-il's detention does not end his influence: he persuades Ahn Gyeong-hui that they both need to cover their involvement. Bun-ok reports the plan to release the students, fearing what survivors could reveal about her own actions. Her search through Seung-hee's possessions also uncovers a photograph of her sister. Seung-hee tells her that neither woman was a spy and that Ahn framed and killed her sister, challenging the story Bun-ok has long been forced to live with.
Gyeok-chan receives another instruction to kill Soo-ho. Chung-ya returns to the dormitory, and her possession of the money interrupts the attempt to eliminate everyone inside. Soo-ho and Gang-mu prepare to separate their escape efforts: Gang-mu will remain responsible for the students while the Northern operatives leave. Yeong-ro offers Soo-ho her brother's scarf and asks him to return it when they meet again, but he gives it back, unable to make that promise. As the spies change clothes and depart, Gyeong-ja discovers that Man-dong has instructions to kill them. He threatens her into silence, but she reaches Gang-mu with the warning. Man-dong retrieves a hidden gun and follows the departing group, putting their escape in danger from someone who has lived among them.
