Pablo expands his attacks on the police while preparing to kill presidential candidate César Gaviria. A young recruit is led to believe he will record a conversation aboard an aircraft; the device he carries is actually a bomb. Murphy searches for the hired explosives specialist behind the plot, trying to understand the intended target before Gaviria leaves Bogotá on a campaign trip.
Connie and Murphy also help Elisa escape the immediate hunt for her. Discovering surveillance on his own car gives Murphy leverage in the dispute over access to American intelligence equipment. Meanwhile, Peña follows Navegante's information to Gacha and his son Freddy. Carrillo's men attack their hiding place, and father and son flee in a pickup pursued by a helicopter. Freddy is killed, and Peña authorises the shot that kills Gacha instead of taking him alive.
Murphy reaches Gaviria before he boards Avianca Flight 203. Without enough proof to explain every part of the plot, he urges the campaign team to trust his warning. Gaviria stays behind, but the flight proceeds with its other passengers. The recruit follows the instructions he has been given and activates the disguised bomb. The investigators prevent the candidate's assassination and remove Gacha, but those successes arrive alongside the destruction of a passenger aircraft and the deaths of innocent people.
