Spoilers for this episode.
Elliot wakes a week after Tyrell shot him and finds Angela at his bedside. Her knowledge of Tyrell confirms that the warehouse confrontation actually happened. He wants to stop Stage 2, which would destroy E Corp's paper records in a bombing, but the warehouse has been emptied. Back home, he explains the threat to Darlene while New York remains without power. The two find an internet connection at an underground hacking competition so Elliot can close the backdoor needed for the attack.
Their work attracts the Dark Army, and Irving takes them away from the gathering. Elliot demands that Stage 2 be cancelled. Irving gives him reason to believe the demand has been accepted, but the reassurance does not settle Elliot's doubts about Five/Nine. The economic damage around him has left ordinary people struggling while E Corp strengthens its hold. He asks Angela to help him get a job there, hoping access from inside the company will let him repair what he started.
Angela has another arrangement that Elliot cannot see. When Mr. Robot takes control of their shared body, she brings him to Irving and Tyrell to continue preparing Stage 2. Elliot's apparent separation from Mr. Robot has hidden their conflict rather than ended it. As the city's electricity returns, Angela agrees to keep Elliot occupied while his other personality works against his efforts to prevent the attack.
