Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
Lucifer Morningstar has left Hell for Los Angeles, where he runs Lux and consults with Detective Chloe Decker after a murder connects him to the victim. Their cases bring him into the LAPD while he tests his belief that people should face the punishment they deserve. Chloe’s resistance to his charms and his vulnerability around her unsettle that certainty; Dr. Linda Martin’s sessions give him a place to confront feelings he would rather turn into jokes. Maze stays close as his demon ally, while Amenadiel keeps pressing him to return to his former post. Chloe and Dan also confront Malcolm at a welcome-back party, where his return exposes the unresolved shooting case.
The season’s police case grows personal when Malcolm Graham, a corrupt officer who survived a near-fatal shooting, frames Lucifer for murder. Dan admits that he helped Malcolm and turns himself in, while Chloe and Maze work to clear Lucifer. Malcolm then kidnaps Trixie and uses her to draw Chloe into a trap. Lucifer follows despite Chloe’s warning, is shot by Malcolm, and wakes in Hell before returning to Earth with his wounds healed. Chloe shoots Malcolm as Lucifer stops him; Lucifer then accepts God’s assignment to find his mother, who has escaped Hell.
