The Brig

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Locke approaches Sawyer at night and claims to have captured Ben, asking Sawyer to kill him. He leads Sawyer to the Black Rock and locks him in the brig with a bound prisoner. The man is actually Anthony Cooper, who explains his relationship to Locke and lists aliases that include Tom Sawyer. Sawyer realizes that Cooper is the con man whose deception led to his parents' deaths. He makes Cooper begin reading the letter he wrote as a child. Cooper instead mocks him and tears the letter apart. Sawyer strangles him with his chains, and Locke releases Sawyer from the room before carrying his father's body away.

Flashbacks cover Locke's recent time among the Others. Ben demanded that he kill Cooper in front of the group, but Locke could not do it. Richard then directed him toward Sawyer as someone with his own reason to act. In the present, Locke gives Sawyer Juliet's recording and warns that the Others intend to raid the beach for pregnant women. At camp, Desmond and his companions reveal the injured parachutist to Sayid while withholding her presence from Jack. Naomi claims that Penny hired her to search for Desmond and repeats that Flight 815 was recovered with no survivors. Sayid works on her communications device. Kate learns about Naomi and immediately tells Jack and Juliet, who suggest they know something they are not yet ready to disclose.
