Sun questions Juliet about the island's danger to pregnant women. Juliet takes her to the medical station for an ultrasound, explaining that conception before the crash would offer a better prospect of survival. Sun admits her affair and fears the scan will either confirm a threat to her life or show that the child is not Jin's. The examination places conception on the island. Sun is relieved that the timing identifies Jin as the father, even as Juliet's warning leaves her future uncertain. Afterward, Juliet secretly records a report for Ben about Sun's pregnancy and plans to obtain information from the other women.
Flashbacks show a woman blackmailing Sun over Jin's parentage. Sun visits the fisherman who raised Jin and learns about his birth mother's background. She obtains the demanded money from her father, who makes Jin's deeper involvement in his business the price of helping. Sun then confronts the blackmailer, recognizing that she is Jin's mother, and pays her while warning her to stay away. In the jungle, Desmond's group struggles to help the injured parachutist. Mikhail unexpectedly appears alive, is captured and agrees to treat her in exchange for freedom. He attempts to take the satellite phone, but Jin retrieves it. After Mikhail leaves, the woman tells Hurley that Flight 815 was found and that everyone aboard was dead.
