Sayid, Kate, Locke and Rousseau follow their route toward the Others and discover a cow near an isolated building. The building is the Flame station, occupied by Mikhail, who shoots Sayid before treating his wound. Mikhail claims to be the last survivor of the Dharma Initiative after a conflict with hostile inhabitants, but Sayid distrusts his account. Kate and Sayid overpower him and search the station, while Locke becomes absorbed in a computer chess game. In the basement, they find documents, explosives and Bea Klugh. When Mikhail gains control of Locke, a confrontation develops between the two sides. Bea urges Mikhail to shoot her, and he complies.
Sayid refuses to kill Mikhail and keeps him as a prisoner. He retrieves a map leading to the barracks, but Locke completes the chess game and follows a computer instruction to enter 77 if hostiles have taken the station. After the group leaves, the building explodes, destroying its equipment. At the beach, Hurley defeats Sawyer at table tennis, obliging him to stop using nicknames for a week. Flashbacks show Sayid being lured into captivity in Paris by the husband of Amira, a woman he tortured in Iraq. Sayid initially denies recognizing her, then tearfully admits what he did. Amira forgives him and promises to tell her husband that she identified the wrong man so he can go free.
