Loki joins Mobius on the hunt for the variant attacking TVA patrols, but his first field assignment gives him another chance to bargain. At a Renaissance fair in Wisconsin, where Hunter C-20 has been abducted, he stalls the search with a claim that the fugitive is nearby. Mobius sees through the performance and brings him back to work through the files. Reading about Asgard's destruction gives Loki a more useful idea: someone hiding inside an apocalypse could act without creating a detectable branch. He tests this in Pompeii, causing a disturbance before the eruption without changing the TVA's readings.
A candy clue narrows their search to an Alabama hurricane in 2050, where evacuees shelter inside the Roxxcart superstore. The fugitive moves between enchanted hosts, including Hunter B-15, while Loki tries to talk her into an alliance against the Time-Keepers. His assumption that she wants the same throne he does fails. She reveals herself as a female Loki variant and sets her accumulated reset charges in motion, sending them through time doors rather than simply blowing up the shop. Branches erupt across the Sacred Timeline, overwhelming the TVA's response. As Mobius arrives, Loki chooses to follow the fugitive through her departing doorway, leaving the agency behind.
