Loy ambushes Odis in his apartment after Doctor Senator's murder and forces him to spy on the Faddas. Deafy watches as Loy's men leave. Zelmare and Swanee attack Gaetano's hiding place on Loy's orders, shoot him in the head and capture him alive. Loy has Omie Sparkman beat the prisoner in retaliation for Senator's death. Meanwhile, Harvard confronts Oraetta over the anonymous letter accusing her of killing patients. She talks her way past his suspicions, but he refuses to show her the letter or identify its author.
Ebal returns with Joe Bulo and support from New York, whose terms require Josto to settle the Cannon dispute and reconcile with Gaetano. Josto would rather leave his brother in captivity, but cannot openly reject those demands. Odis receives conflicting assignments: Loy wants Satchel brought home, while Josto wants Gaetano found. Josto then orders Antoon Dumini to kill Satchel, hoping the boy's death will provoke Loy into killing Gaetano for him. Antoon takes Satchel away despite his wife's objections, but hesitates when the moment comes to shoot the child. Rabbi finds them and kills Antoon before he can carry out the order. He takes Satchel into his car and drives away from the escalating conflict.
