Walt races to Los Pollos Hermanos after Jesse disappears, fearing Gus has taken him. Before finding Gus, he leaves Skyler and the children a voicemail saying he loves them. Mike calls to say Jesse is with him and will not be harmed, then orders Walt back to work. Mike takes Jesse across New Mexico to isolated dead drops where Gus’s dealers leave money. Jesse thinks he is there as backup, but Mike says he does not know why Gus included him.
At the final stop, Jesse waits alone in the car. Two men approach, one carrying a shotgun. Jesse reverses, rams their car and escapes. Mike says little, though he seems impressed. Gus arranged the situation to test Jesse and build his confidence. Skyler and Walt complete the car-wash purchase.
Skyler hears Walt’s voicemail, and they have sex before she offers to let him move back. Walt leaves without answering. Jesse returns to the lab and says he will also help Mike with pickups. At dinner with Hank and Marie, Walt drinks wine and bristles when Hank calls Gale a genius. He suggests Gale copied someone else’s work, reviving an investigation Hank had considered finished. Re-examining the evidence, Hank notices that the vegan Gale kept notes on a Los Pollos Hermanos napkin.
