A flashback shows Jimmy and Chuck keeping watch beside their mother in a hospital. Jimmy steps out to get sandwiches; while he is gone, their mother wakes and calls his name before dying. Chuck tells Jimmy she said nothing. In the present, Jimmy runs into the copy shop to help Chuck after his fall and makes sure an ambulance is called. At the hospital, he takes temporary guardianship so doctors can scan Chuck for injuries.
Chuck reacts badly to the tests and briefly becomes catatonic, but later returns home. Howard tells Jimmy that Chuck plans to retire after the Mesa Verde error, and Jimmy visits his brother. Chuck has covered his home with reflective foil and says he is unfit to keep practicing law. Jimmy admits that he altered the branch application and paid the copy-shop clerk to conceal his visit.
Chuck has secretly recorded the confession. Mike, meanwhile, buys a rifle and watches Hector’s crew from a desert ridge, hoping for a chance to kill him. Nacho stands between Mike and Hector, so Mike cannot take the shot without risking another man’s life. A car horn interrupts his wait. Mike finds a branch pressing against the horn and a note on the windshield that reads “DON’T.”
