Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
Wolfram & Hart resurrects Darla as a human and tries to use her past with Angel to draw him into evil. Angel becomes fixated on saving her, refuses to sire her, and undergoes a dangerous trial in her place. Drusilla turns Darla into a vampire, and Angel cuts himself off from his staff to attack the pair alone. After sleeping with Darla fails to make him lose his soul, he realizes that chasing a grand reward has distracted him from helping people and tries to rebuild his purpose.
Angel reunites with Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn, and Angel Investigations returns to solving cases around Los Angeles while Cordelia’s visions become more painful. Late in the season, a portal pulls Cordelia into Pylea, a demon dimension where humans are treated as property. The others follow and meet Winifred “Fred” Burkle, a former physics student who has survived there for years. Cordelia becomes a princess, Wesley and Gunn join rebels, and Angel struggles with his aggressive vampire nature. They return with Fred and find Willow waiting with news that Buffy has died. Lorne accompanies the rescue to his home dimension; Cordelia rejects the life the priests have planned for her and chooses to return to her friends in Los Angeles.
