Spoilers for this episode.
Inside the American embassy, Jack overpowers guards and reaches Lieutenant Tanner. He tells the frightened pilot that he believes his account of the drone attack and needs the flight key to prove it. Tanner hands it over, but Jack cannot find a clear exit. Chloe directs him to the communications room, where he takes hostages and barricades the door so he can upload the flight data before security reaches him.
The transfer stalls because the data needs decrypting. Adrian Cross supplies software, but the upload still moves too slowly. Jack fires at the approaching Marines to buy time while reassuring the people trapped with him that he does not intend to hurt them. Heller speaks to Jack by telephone after learning of his return. Audrey believes Jack's warning, but Mark argues against trusting him. Heller ultimately authorises the Marines to breach the room, leaving Jack's explanation without the proof he needs.
Kate listens to Jack's account and decides that the threat may be real. She enters through a ceiling vent and offers to finish his work. When the Marines blast open the door, she places Jack under CIA custody and shields him from their assault. At Margot's hideout, Naveed's attempt to withdraw from the drone operation brings punishment for Simone. Margot has her daughter's finger cut off to force his cooperation. Naveed gives in and sits before the drone controls, allowing Margot's preparations to continue.
