Spoilers for this episode.
Cole identifies Dana Walsh's body and realizes that Jack executed her. Jack reviews her recording with Jim Ricker, who identifies the Russian contact as Pavel Tokarev. Determined to find Renee's killer, Jack calls journalist Meredith Reed and offers evidence about the plot against Hassan. Their planned meeting at a department store is intercepted by CTU, giving Pillar and Logan a chance to send Tokarev after them.
Chloe and Arlo grow suspicious when Pillar hides the intercepted call and sends information outside CTU instead of deploying agents. They create a separate network connection and loop Cole's cell camera so Chloe can speak with him privately. Cole warns that Jack is seeking revenge, but suggests finding the person supplying his equipment. Logan, meanwhile, promises the Russians that the journalist can also be killed and presses Taylor for public recognition of his help.
Jack has anticipated the surveillance. Ricker captures Tokarev in his sniper position, and Jack kills the Russian operatives approaching Reed. They leave the store and take Tokarev to a nearby construction site, where Jack gives Reed Dana's recording. He then tortures Tokarev for the identity of the person who ordered Renee's death. Tokarev refuses to answer, but Jack realizes that he has swallowed his phone's SIM card. Jack cuts it out of his body and dials the last number, reaching Charles Logan's voicemail.
