Wayne Palmer undergoes emergency surgery after the bunker bombing, and Noah Daniels prepares to assume presidential duties. Assad is dead and is being blamed for the attack. Reed releases Lennox after arguing that exposing the real conspirators will destroy their security agenda. Lennox immediately tells the Secret Service to arrest Reed and Carson, surrendering himself as well and asking to speak to the attorney general.
Jack escorts Logan to the Russian consulate, where Markov denies knowing Gredenko's location despite Logan's threats to expose their earlier dealings. Logan tells Jack afterward that Markov is lying. Jack has Chloe arrange a brief power outage, slips inside and takes the consul hostage. He forces Markov to admit that Gredenko is preparing aerial drones in the Mojave Desert to deliver the nuclear weapons. Before Jack can escape or pass the information on, Russian security bursts into the office and captures him.
Daniels pressures Lennox to let Assad take the blame, making support for his security program part of the bargain for clearing Lennox's name. Karen reverses her resignation and heads back to the White House. Daniels publicly accuses Assad while CTU intercepts a Russian message confirming Jack is in custody. Jack persuades a guard to call Buchanan with the information about Gredenko, but Vasili shoots the man before he can speak. Buchanan answers an empty line while Jack remains trapped inside the consulate.
