Jack travels to Charles Logan's retreat after the former president offers a lead on Gredenko. Logan identifies Russian consul Anatoly Markov as the contact who can reach him. He claims Markov owes him for keeping his role in the earlier conspiracy secret and insists he wants redemption rather than a pardon. Jack remains suspicious but asks Palmer to grant Logan a temporary furlough so they can approach Markov in person.
Palmer reluctantly authorizes the arrangement, warning Logan that he will be hunted down if he tries to escape. Jack changes clothes to accompany him into the consulate. Elsewhere, Gredenko receives American military drones intended to carry the remaining bombs. At CTU, Morris argues that he can still perform his duties, while Nadia questions his readiness. Chloe's attempt to check on his recovery reaches an old sponsor, causing another argument. Alone afterward, Morris pours his whiskey down a drain.
Reed and Carson keep Lennox bound in the boiler room while assembling a bomb inside a recorder. Carson gives Reed the device and its activation code, leaving him to plant it near the podium for Assad’s televised appeal. Lennox triggers a pressure alarm in an unsuccessful attempt to attract help. Reed activates the bomb from outside the room. Assad notices liquid leaking from the recorder and shouts a warning before the explosion. Secret Service agents find Palmer bloodied and unconscious amid the casualties.
