Palmer demands a private meeting with Jack and initially accuses him of seeking revenge for the men lost in Kosovo. Jack explains that the kidnappers forced him to cooperate and that his actions at the breakfast were intended to protect Palmer. They realise they are both targets connected to Operation Nightfall. Palmer contacts Robert Ellis, the former operative who helped arrange the mission, and asks him to recover information about Victor Drazen and his associates.
Teri and Kim arrive at the safehouse with Nina. Teri learns that she is pregnant, and Kim's first angry reaction gives way to an apology. Teri tries to reach Jack but cannot tell him while he is occupied at CTU. During questioning, she also works out that Nina was the woman Jack saw during their separation. Nina confirms the relationship and says it ended when Jack returned to his family, leaving Teri needing a break from the interview.
Ellis finds signs that a file has been removed, while the available records reveal that Drazen's wife and daughter died during the operation. Jack recognises that his own family remains a direct target and asks Nina to strengthen their protection. Palmer secures Jack's temporary reinstatement and decides to stay in Los Angeles. Before Ellis can explain more about the missing file, an attacker catches him in a bathroom and strangles him while Jack listens on the phone.
