Chase the Rifts to Arcadia
On this page
The Outer Worlds 2 casts you as a daring Earth Directorate agent with one job: uncover the source of devastating rifts threatening to destroy all of humanity.
Investigate, then follow it home
The investigation leads to Arcadia, home of skip drive technology. That detail matters, because it moves the mystery from an abstract cosmic problem to a specific colony with its own industry, politics and history, which is somewhere a first-person RPG can actually do something with it.
The stakes are written plainly
The store says the fate of the colony, and ultimately the entire galaxy, rests on your decisions: your strengths, your flaws, your crew and the factions you choose to trust. Listing four inputs together is a fair warning that no single system is going to carry the outcome on its own.
Arcadia is already at war with itself
The colony is engulfed in a factional war, and as destructive rifts spread across it, the factions are fighting to control or close them for their own ends. So the mystery and the conflict are the same problem, which is why investigating carefully tends to matter more than arriving quickly.
Who is fighting over those rifts is covered in picking a side in the factional war. Who you bring and who you become is covered in building a character the colony reacts to.
